I'm Jakob, born of two loving parents with wildly different takes on creativity.
My dad became a director, actor and CEO of various theatres. My mother freelance in creative musical stage acting for choirs and remains a closeted witch. Rational and methodic meets chaotic and imaginative.
And there I am, squeezed somewhere in between.
For the longest time, I dreamt of becoming a musician. To keep that dream alive I worked every scrappy crappy job under the sun. I disregarded a lot of opportunities in my youth to keep playing shoddy bars, half-empty venues and the occasional tour. But with my thirties coming up I knew I had to set a different course.
But what?
I had heard of Berghs SoC but was hesitant to apply, I thought I wasn't cool enough. After slapping my face a few times I downloaded the work sample and realized it wasn't really all that different from writing music. You still had to evoke emotion with as few words as possible, make people care about what you create and gather a metric shit-ton of anxiety and doubt doing it.
I got in (thankfully) and since then I've kept trying to evoke emotion, gathering a metric shit ton of anxiety doing so.
(but also a lot of joy)
I used to have a pretentious paraphrased quote from Blaise Pascal from1657 here:
"I'm sorry, if I had more time I would have written a shorter letter"
But as the great Brennan Lee Mulligan said, just as a throwaway line in a DnD campaign:
"Are you trying to achieve greatness, or are you trying to avoid disappointment?"
I'm trying to achieve greatness.

jesus christ that sounded pretentious.
